Oxford is rich with history begining with the Osage Indians settling here back in the 1800's, continuing with the oil boom in the 1930's while also being known for the Old Oxford Mill built in 1874, that is on the National Historical Register.  Settled on the Arkansas River you will find opportunites to be outside and enmursed in nature are never ending.  You will find our small town charm to be enchanting with several downtown events we hold annually for the entire community to be included in.  

The City of Oxford provides Electricity, Water, Sewer and Trash service. You may apply for services through the City Office.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I transfer utilities into my name? ~ Visit the City Office and fill out a Utility Transfer Application. You will need to provide your driver's license, as well as a copy of your rental agreement or closing papers on the purchase of your home. If utilities are currently active on the property, the transfer fee is $10.00 per electric/water meter and is non-refundable. If utilities have previously been disconnected, the hook-up fee is $50.00 per electric/water meter and is non-refundable.

When is my utility bill due? ~ City utility bills are sent by the 1st of each month and are due by the 20th of each month. Bills that are not paid by the due date will have a 10% penalty added and a delinquent notice will be sent. The disconnect date for unpaid utilities is 10 days after the delinquent date.

Who do I call for a power outage after hours? ~ Call 911 and report the outage as a non emergency, they will dispatch our utility crew to find the source of the outage.

When will my trash get picked up? ~ Wednesday is all residents North of Highway 160/Main St. Thursday is all residents South of Highway 160/Main St.

Who is our trash provider? ~ TL's Sanitation is contracted with the City to provide the City's trash pick up. If you have any problems or questions regarding your trash service, you can contact TL's Sanitation at 316-633-5272  

What are the rules surrounding trash pickup? Trash should be placed in containers with tight fitting lids and put near the curb on your specified trash pickup day.  Each family can have up to two 90 gallon containers.  No yard waste or construction debris is allowed.

Are there restrictions for dogs in the City of Oxford? ~ Yes. Pitbulls are not allowed within the City limits. (SEE BELOW)

2-211. PITBULL DOGS.  It shall be unlawful to keep, harbor, own or in any way possess within the corporate limits of the city:

Any pit bull dog including:

  1. The bull terrier breed of dog;
  2. Staffordshire bull terrier breed of dog;
  3. The American pit bull terrier breed of dog;
  4. The American Staffordshire terrier breed of dog;
  5. Dogs of mixed breed or of other breeds than above listed which breed or mixed breed is known as pit bulls, pit bull dogs, or pit bull terriers;
  6. Any dog which has the appearance and characteristics of being predominantly of the breeds of bull terrier, Staffordshire terrier, American pit bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier; any other breed commonly known as pit bulls, pit bull terriers’ or a combination of any of these breeds. (Ord. 154, Sec 1)

Do I need to register my dog with the City of Oxford? ~ Yes, dog tags can be purchased, with proof of the rabies vaccination from a licensed veterinarian, for an annual registration fee of $5.00. The registration year runs from January 1st to December 31st.  The city also holds an animal clinic once a year *generally in the fall* and an area veterinarian is invited to provide vaccines to area resident’s pets at a fair value.
