⚠️ WATER DISCOLORATION UPDATE ⚠️

URGENT, Oxford News, Events

💧💧 Some residents may have noticed discolored water beginning yesterday evening. The issue originated when a third-party contractor working for Brightspeed Internet struck a 3" water line owned by Rural Water District #6 (RWD #6). The line, located west of Oxford between Greenwich Road and their pumphouse, was repaired later that day.

Once water service was restored, the return of water pressure stirred up sediment (mud and dirt) that had settled at the bottom of the water lines. This caused temporary discoloration within the system.

This type of situation is similar to what occurred earlier this year following repairs to the City’s main water line.

Residents may notice varying levels of murkiness depending on which water line serves their home and how much sediment was present. If your water appears discolored, running your faucets intermittently can help flush the lines and clear the water more quickly. Cleaning or replacing any water filters may also be helpful.

The system is expected to continue clearing, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. 💧💧

⚡ Community Update: Lightning Strikes, Crew Responds! ⚡

Sometimes Mother Nature likes to keep us on our toes—and this morning she packed quite a punch! Lightning struck a surge arrestor east of town on 11th Road, and the surge made its way through to the transformer, leaving our Utility Crew with a sparky surprise to tackle today.

But have no fear—our hardworking crew is already on the scene replacing the damaged transformer and working diligently to restore full service. We’re proud of their quick response and dedication, especially when unpredictable Kansas weather decides to put on a show.

We’ll keep everyone updated if any service interruptions occur, but in the meantime, let’s give a big shout-out to our Utility Crew for braving the elements and keeping Oxford powered up. 🌩️🔧💡

Temporary Water Discoloration

Community Update

💧👷‍♂️ Temporary Water Discoloration 👷‍♂️💧

The City of Oxford would like to let residents know that Mayer Specialty Services recently performed maintenance on several sewer lines in town. As part of their work, they needed to fill equipment from a nearby fire hydrant.

This process can cause a temporary brown tint in the water for some residents. The discoloration is due to the high water pressure stirring up natural sediment in the water lines. While it may look unsightly, the water is safe to use and should clear within a few hours.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we complete these important maintenance projects for our community.
